How this calculation works
This calculator compares the upfront annual membership fee against the genuine discounts you receive on merchandise, fuel savings, and usable perks over a 12-month period, accounting for extra travel expenses and bulk waste.
Key formulas
- Gross merchandise savings: Annual eligible spending multiplied by your entered average price discount percentage.
- Total annual costs: Upfront annual membership fee plus annual transportation expenses to reach the store and any estimated spoilage or impulse spending caused by bulk sizing.
- Break-even annual spending: The merchandise spending volume required so that discount savings equal the net fee remaining after fuel and direct perk benefits are subtracted.
- Break-even month: The point in the year where cumulative monthly savings overtake the initial fee and cumulative travel costs.
